Between abstract and figurative, joy and bitterness, lyricism and austerity. Always Miollis sparkles, his art sparkles everywhere.
Jean-Christophe Buisson, Le Figaro
Bertrand de Miollis is a French Painter and engraver
Having trained at ENSAD Paris (2002-2004), Bertrand de Miollis draws his inspiration from his explorations.
On foot, aboard sailboats, or most often on his motorcycle, he sets out to meet his themes, people, scenes and landscapes.
On Lake Baikal, in the USA, in Chile or in Rwanda : different immersions but the same open-minded gaze that questions the links between humans and environments.
As an «embedded artist» with British and French soldiers in Irak (2003) and Afghanistan (2010), he bears witness with his brushes to the difficult reality of war with great humanity. At the heart of the Opéra National de Paris, he made an in-depth journey with the dancers of the Company(1 year in residence in 2014).
The artworks created as a result of these «immersions» are featured in the press, in publications, on television and in galleries.
Initially known for his travel journals with, among others, the writer Sylvain Tesson, he now expresses himself in oil paintings and wood engravings.
A member of the Taylor Foundation (2015), he is sensitive to the theme of the sea and its protection. He was appointed Official Painter of the French Navy (Peintre Officiel de la Marine) in 2018. His singular and colorful universe oscillates between figuration and abstraction in a transcended relationship to reality. Built on a tension between softness and acidity, his aspirational artworks combine power, delicateness and poetry.
